A Place for Every Clamp...

A place for every tool and every tool in its place...or something along those lines. Not a credo I live by as anyone who knows me can tell you, but after knocking over my clamps for the fortyleventh time, I knew it was time to build something to store them all on.

Now that Amy's room is complete, I thought I'd take some time while she is busily moving her stuff into her new room to build a clamp rack.

(If you're interested in seeing Amy's new room, complete with my custom cabinets, check out her blog. It turned out quite well and she's rather geeked about it...and rightfully so.)

Anyhoo, here's some pictures of the beast should anyone be interested:

I'd love to say this was an original idea, but I have to admit that I borrowed the idea from Norm. His was made out of plywood, but as I don't have iron big enough to handle full sheets of plywood, I chose to make mine out of 2x4s from the local BORG. Not exactly the finest piece of woodworking, but its quite functional.

Norm's rack also had dowels coming out of the sides of the rack for spring clamp and C-clamp storage. I decided to leave that little design detail out as unlike Norm's rack, mine has to fit through a doorway. It stands about 6 1/2 feet tall, is 27" wide and is on casters for easy transport. And let me tell you, when I put my collection of clamps, as "noobish" as they may be, that thing is pretty damn heavy.

Next up on the project list...the air cleaner...stay tuned.

Amy's Cabinets Part III

Just a quick note tonight...

The cabinets are 99.7% done...finally. I cut and fit the doors today. All that's left at this point is to paint everything, put the doors on the hinges and the hinges on the cabinets. Pictures at eleven...
